Course Description

In this course, the participant will learn to identify the conditions that could lead to Lean Blow Out events, including the operating ranges most vulnerable to Lean Blow Out events. This course will also help the participant distinguish between trips caused by a Lean Blow Out event and those caused by other factors. It will also familiarize the participant with the solutions recommended by GE to minimize LBO occurrences.

Prerequisites

  • Course material is in English; therefore, a reasonable ability to read and understand English is required.
  • The participant should have a basic understanding of the operational fundamentals of a gas turbine and an intimate familiarity with all the safety regulations and guidelines.

Learning Objectives

This course will provide basic knowledge on the following:

  • Define lean blow out,
  • Identify when lean blow out events are likely to occur, and
  • Identify factors that must be considered when determining the fuel to air ratio.

In this course, we will define and discuss lean blowouts, including conditions under which a lean blowout event is likely to occur, recommended solutions to prevent a lean blowout event, and recognizing trips that are caused by lean blowouts.
