Course Description

This course familiarizes personnel with preparation, planning, O&M documentation, turbine components, tooling and radial rotor alignment for a C Inspection.

Prerequisites

Participants should have:

  • Instruction is given in English, therefore a reasonable ability to read and understand spoken English is required
  • Have a mechanical background
  • Be familiar with the service or erection of power plants

Learning Objectives

This course will provide basic knowledge on the following:

  • State the purpose and the duration of the three types of inspection on the gas turbine (A, B, C)
  • Explain the tasks to be carried out during a C inspection
  • Describe step by step the procedures for disassembling and reassembling the machine
  • Use the relevant documentation

LESSON 1 – OVERVIEW AND PREPARATIONS

  1. Preparation for a C inspection
  2. Manpower planning
  3. Setting up the site for the inspection

LESSON 2 – DOCUMENTATION

  1. Documentation: O&M manuals and test certificates

LESSON 3 – DISASSEMBLY AND REASSEMBLY

  1. Disassembly and reassembly of the turbine instrumentation
  2. Step by step sequences for disassembly, inspections, and reassembly of all turbine components
  3. Special tools for disassembly and reassembly

LESSON 4 – ALIGNMENT

  1. Alignment of the outer and inner casing to the rotor (radial rotor position)
  2. Coupling alignment

LESSON 5 – PREPARATION FOR COMMISSIONING

  1. Preparation work for start up of the Gas Turbine and cleaning of systems
  2. Preparation work up to “motor roll”
  3. Preparation work for first ignition after the inspection
