Course Description

O-BOI10102

Boiler - Combustion Tuning for Emissions (CO, NOx)

This course is designed to aid personnel assigned the task of maintaining optimum NOx/CO emissions from a coal fired steam generator.   The emphasis will be on combustion system optimization of a tangential firing system and include the following systems and equipment:

  • Fuel Firing Equipment / Tangential Firing Systems
  • Control of Primary and Secondary Air
  • Optimization of NOx/CO Emissions from the Firing System
  • GE RSFC™ Wall Fired Burner

Duration

2 Days

Target Audience

  • Supervisors
  • Operations
  • Instrumentation & Controls

Prerequisites

  • Instruction is given in English; therefore, a reasonable ability to read and understand spoken English is required
  • Although not required, attendance in the Boiler Design and Testing Fundamentals course is recommended.

Class Size

Maximum number of students:  18

Learning Objectives

This course will provide basic knowledge on the following:

  • Requirements for optimum combustion of pulverized coal in a tangential fired steam generator
  • Major components of GE’s tangential firing system
  • How NOx is generated in the furnace and how it can be controlled
  • Major components of GE’s LNCFS™ (Low NOx Concentric Firing System)
  • Key operating variables that affect NOx
  • Possible operating and/or mechanical conditions that could contribute to high NOx on GE’s LNCFS™ firing system
  • Major Components of a GE RSFC™ Wall
  • Fired Burner
  • Possible operating and/or mechanical conditions that could contribute to high NOx on GE's RSFC™ Wall Fired Burner
