Course Description

This course provides in depth instruction on EX2100e Digital Excitation System operation, maintenance and troubleshooting.

Training is divided between classroom theory and practical lab exercises. The student will learn the theory and operation of the EX2100e through classroom presentations and discussions. The lab exercises are designed to reinforce EX2100e operation, troubleshooting and maintenance functions.

Target Audience

This course is oriented for participants who have previously attended an EX2100e class and wish to learn more about the EX2100e system and the GE ToolboxST™ application program.

Prerequisites

Participants must have:

  • Instruction is given in English, therefore a reasonable ability to read and understand spoken English is required
  • Previous experience with EX2000 or EX2100 or EX2100e
  • Reasonable computer skills

Learning Objectives

This course will provide knowledge on the following:

  • Safe offline and online exciter operation
  • Software utilization and archiving best practices
  • Configuration downloads to controllers from the .tcw system files
  • Viewing and changing parameters
  • Perform commissioning tests using simulator
  • Configure trend recorder and capture buffer
  • EGD communication network IP addressing
  • Identify EX2100e problems entered into the system by the instructor i.e. troubleshooting examples 
  • Using generic excitation elementary drawings:  
  1. Identify the components on the drawing and locate them in an EX2100e cabinet, describe device function and testing methods
  2. Describe the meaning of symbols on the drawings

LOTO: 

    • List the steps required to safely lockout and tagout the EX2100e

  1. EX2100e configurations, i.e. Busfed, Aux Fed, Alterrex etc.
  2. Major components and circuit boards
  3. Review excitation elementary drawings
  4. Power conversion bridge
  5. Opening files with ToolboxST™
  6. Navigating ToolboxST™
  7. Firmware upgrade procedures

LESSON 2 - Software 

  1. Software functions and blockware
  2. Software diagrams, parameters and variables
  3. Limiters and protection functions
  4. Pre-programmed capture blocks
  5. Changing and saving files

LESSON 3 – Advanced Control System ToolboxST™ 

  1. Advanced ToolboxST™ operation
  2. Advanced trend recorder operation
  3. Data collection for troubleshooting using capture buffers
  4. Bode plot and step tests for determining exciter stability

LESSON 4 – Communication Network 

  1. Overview and operation of communications network and network addressing
  2. Network troubleshooting and maintenance procedures
