Course Description

This course is designed for engineering and maintenance personnel who configure, and maintain the LCI™ static starter. Laboratory assignments include hardware identification, Hyper terminal and Control System ToolboxST™ communications, understanding the monitor commands, and user diagnostic tests. This course will utilize Simulators, and a full functioning LCI™ starter. Lectures and hands-on exercises develop a thorough understanding of the equipment.

Prerequisites

Instruction is given in English, therefore a reasonable ability to read and understand spoken English is required

          Reasonable computer skills

          Electrical experience/education

          Participants are encouraged to research their turbine-generator equipment and documentation to verify they have an                  Innovation Series LCI™ static starter, and to bring a copy of their system elementary drawing with them to class.

Learning Objectives

This course will provide basic knowledge on the following:

  • What the LS2100e is used for
  • How the LS2100e changes the speed of the generator/motor
  • Maintenance on the pump panel
  • Understanding of the .tcw  file used in the Control ST™
  • Understand and troubleshoot the connectivity between the LS2100e, the Turbine Control, and the Exciter

LESSON 1

  1. Hardware overview
  2. Liquid cooling system power conversion theory
  3. Elementary diagram reading
  4. Pump panel operations maintenance and troubleshooting        

 

LESSON 2

  1. Understanding the software (inner and outer loop)
  2. Loading UCSB runtime
  3. ControlST™ familiarization
  4. Trend recording with capture buffer for troubleshooting
  5. Understanding the HHSL status diagram
  6. DDR familiarization
  7. UCSB Controller functions

LESSON 3

  1. Programming of DACs for diagnostics
  2. Utilizing and understanding the feedbacks diagram
  3. Real-time recording
  4. Static starter, excitation, generator operation and theory         

LESSON 4

  1. Running the diagnostic tests
  2. Scaling feedback signals, and nulling offsets
  3. Troubleshooting faults and alarms
  4. Quiz and wrap-up
