Course Description

This course will provide participants with a solid background in advanced EX2100 Digital Excitation System maintenance and troubleshooting using the Control System Toolbox.

The training is divided equally between classroom theory and practical lab exercises. Through classroom presentations and discussions, the student will learn advanced theory and operation of the EX2100.

In the lab, each student will work with EX2100 hardware to complete practical lab exercises designed to teach advanced EX2100 troubleshooting and maintenance techniques.

Prerequisites

Participants should have:

  • Instruction is given in English, therefore a reasonable ability to read and understand spoken English is required
  • Attend the EX2100 Generator Maintenance course
  • Participants should be very familiar with a Microsoft® Windows® operating system.
  • Participants are encouraged to research their turbine-generator equipment and documentation to verify they have an EX2100 on their unit and to bring a copy of their system elementary drawing with them to class.

Learning Objectives

This course will provide basic knowledge on the following:

  • Upload/Download configuration file
  • View and change parameters
  • Perform commissioning test using the simulation
  • Configure the trend recorder and capture buffer
  • Follow signal flow via the diagrams

  • View faults and alarms
  • Be able to state the major function of each circuit board
  • Follow the signal flow on the excitation elementary drawings

  1. Major parts of a generator.
  2. Generator operation basic principles.
  3. EX2100 basic operation.
  4. EX2100 types, configuration, and operating modes.
  5. Units start and stop sequence.
  6. EX2100 basic software overview.
  7. Generator online operation and capability curves.

Lesson 2 - EX2100 Hardware & Operation

  1. EX2100 modules, board’s location, and function.
  2. EX2100 power isolation (LOTO).
  3. EX2100 board replacement.

Lesson 3 - EX2100 TOOLBOX ADVANCED

  1. Parts/devices for software programming/troubleshooting.
  2. Product versions and installation.
  3. Toolbox basic functions.
  4. Toolbox finder, trender, watch windows, capture buffer, and logic forcing.
  5. EX2100 simulation tests.

Lesson 4 - EX2100 SOFTWARE OVERVIEW & DOWNLOAD CONFIGURATION
